Dr. Chae is a lecturer in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Sydney. Dr. Chae received his Ph.D. from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 2004 and he pioneered research in area of application of nanotechnology for membrane fabrication, water treatment and energy. Since 2003, Dr. Chae has authored three book chapters and 50 journal articles in top interdisciplinary journals including ACS Nano, Environmental Science & Technology, Water Research, Bioresource Technology, and Journal of Membrane Science. Dr. Chae received best paper awards from Korean Society of Environmental Engineers and the Merit Award from American Chemical Society in 2010.
Dr. Chae is currently a professional member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), the Australian Water Association (AWA), the International Water Association (IWA), the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the American Academy of Artsand Sciences (AAAS). He is also serving as a reviewer of prestigious scholarly journals, including Environmental Science and Technology (ACS Publications), Water Research (Elsevier), the Journal of Membrane Science (Elsevier), Bioresource Technology (Elsevier), Chemosphere (Elsevier), Process  Biochemistry (Elsevier), and Desalination (Elsevier).
